At BEEN London, our mission is to divert waste from landfill to protect the planet and all of its inhabitants. We're driven by our love and respect for nature - we know that waste is having a hugely detrimental impact on habitats and ecosystems (so that's why we're trying to design it out!).

To make our timeless accessories, we therefore prioritise the use of recycled and deadstock materials that would otherwise be discarded. This includes the use of some animal-based materials such as recycled leather and deadstock virgin leather.

Our recycled leather is made with 50% Recycled Pre-Consumer Leather offcuts and trimmings from tanneries, which would otherwise have been discarded by the fashion industry. It contains 0% virgin leather. As such, we are not able to trace the source of the leather offcuts, but the material has been Global Recycled Standard certified, which ensures it has been processed in a more climate-friendly way.

Whenever using virgin leather, it will always be either dead stock or offcuts that would otherwise go to landfills.

At BEEN, we believe that animal cruelty is unacceptable and we will not tolerate any mistreatment of animals. We don’t use any exotic or endangered skins, feathers, fur, down, silk, angora, or mohair in our collections. We continue to introduce vegan leather alternatives, including AppleSkin and Pinatex and will always prioritise sustainability and ethical production.
