ALIGNE X BEEN LONDON

We joined forces with ALIGNE to create the London-based fashion brand's first ever accessories collection.

THE COLLECTION

The limited edition ALIGNE x BEEN London collection consists of three recycled leather accessories - a directional sling bag with an elongated strap detail, a graphic clutch with a wrist strap and a statement crossbody phone bag. The collaboration features earthy nature-based colours, contrasted with the more monochrome black and off-white tones.

The BEEN London and ALIGNE teams worked in collaboration to design the collection, fusing our shared values and ethos through timeless modern design.

WASTE TO WONDER

Every year, we throw away a staggering 2.12 bn tonnes of waste. At the same time, we keep making new things by extracting virgin materials - the biggest driver of climate change.

The ALIGNE x BEEN London collection challenges the status quo. Every piece is handmade from materials that would otherwise end up in landfills.

By using only recycled materials - taking what is already in circulation - to create this collection, we are not only showing the potential value of recycling and utilising waste as a resource, but we are also able to significantly reduce the CO2 emissions compared to manufacturing using virgin materials.

FALKIRK CLUTCH

The graphic origami-inspired Falkirk clutch bag was handcrafted in East London using smooth grain recycled leather, made from tannery offcuts that would otherwise have been discarded by the fashion industry. Featuring a decorative stud detail and a non-adjustable wrist strap, Falkirk has been designed to be worn as a handheld clutch or a stylish wristlet. Featuring a hidden interior card pocket for maximum functionality.

WELLESLEY SLING

Handcrafted in East London from buttery-soft smooth grain recycled leather, the Wellesley sling can be worn high or slung low thanks to its adjustable shoulder strap with double stud closure. Boasting a soft roomy interior to fit all your daily essentials, as well as a hidden inside pocket for your cards.

WILLOW PHONE BAG

The Willow crossbody phone bag has been designed to be worn ergonomically like a sling, with an adjustable strap to fit over layers. Handcrafted in the UK in smooth grain recycled leather, Willow is available in three colour ways. Both beautiful and functional, Willow features a useful and discrete card pocket at the back.

SUSTAINABILITY & IMPACT

ARTISANS

Each ALIGNE x BEEN London bag is handcrafted by skilled artisans in some of the last remaining leather workshops in the UK, supporting British manufacturing, local employment and skills preservation.

The Wellesley Sling and Falkirk Clutch are made in a small workshop just a stone's throw from BEEN London's Head Office in Stratford, East London.

The Willow Phone Bag was made in the heart of Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire.

THE LEATHER

The smooth grain recycled leather is made in Italy from tannery offcuts and trimmings that would have otherwise been discarded by the fashion industry.

It is Global Recycled Standard (GRS) certified, which means it’s fully traceable.

Recycled content - 70%

THE LINING

The luxurious suede-like lining is also produced in Italy from pre-consumer fabric off-cuts from the manufacturing of nylon clothing and swimwear, as well other fabric waste such as flags, umbrellas, and windbreakers.

The resulting suedette fabric is made from 70% recycled polyamide and is also GRS certified, meaning it is fully traceable.

THE ZIPS

During the design process, every element of the bags has been considered to reduce waste - right down to the zips.

The zip tape is made from 100% recycled polyester (80% recycled post consumer polyester, 20% recycled pre consumer polyester), while the zip teeth are made from 80% recycled brass.

Oeko-Tex certified and GRS certified.

THE WASTE

This collaboration diverted almost 60 kg of waste from landfill through the use of our recycled leather, recycled microsuede lining and recycled polyester and brass zips - the equivalent of approximately 240 items of clothing.

END OF LIFE

The bags have been designed with longevity, durability and repairability in mind. To extend the lifespan of your Aligne x BEEN London bag for as long as possible, BEEN has partnered with care and repair service The Seam. The Seam works by linking you to a community of trusted experts in your area who can help fix broken straps, a stuck zip, or even revitalising leather, making it easy to keep your Aligne x BEEN London bag in the loop.
