Introducing our new Collaboration

BEEN LONDON X THE LAND GARDENERS

BEEN London has joined forces with soil health pioneers The Land Gardeners to create two new bags that make the perfect gifts for those who love gardening, but also value
style, functionality and eco-conscious design.

THE COLLECTION

This collaboration combines our love for function and style with designs inspired by the items that The Land Gardeners use day-to-day.

For this collection, we designed two new bag styles, both handmade in Somerset using natural materials - 100% recycled cotton with deadstock vegetable-tanned
leather trims. The capsule collection combines our recycled materials expertise with The Land Gardeners’ compost expertise.

The first style, a beautifully crafted, multifunctional 'gardening bag’, draws inspiration from a Japanese tool bag. It serves both as a gardening tool bag, as well as a work and overnight bag, featuring roomy all-around pockets for easy access to tools and kit, as well as
an internal pocket to fit a 13-inch laptop.

The second design is a premium classic flat tote bag, made from heavyweight, durable recycled cotton with two deep front pockets for added functionality.

The designs aim to resonate with modern working individuals who appreciate high-quality materials, local craftsmanship and pieces designed to last a lifetime.

THE DESIGNS

“I’ve always admired Bridget and Henrietta’s incredible work with soil. Sustainability and impact aside, there’s no other duo in the world who make compost look so stylish! So when they approached us with the idea of creating a gardening bag that could also be a handbag - that was a match made in heaven and a lovely design challenge for us as a team. The bags were inspired by items The Land Gardeners use and need day to day, whether they are gardening, attending meetings or travelling. Collectively, we wanted the bags to be versatile and beautiful, and all about the craft, material and purpose. It felt right to use a natural material like recycled cotton for this project rather than something synthetic, and to think about how we could achieve function and beauty in the design whilst keeping panels straight to minimise waste.”

ABOUT THE LAND GARDENERS

Henrietta Courtauld and Bridget Elworthy established The Land Gardeners to research plant and soil health. Their aim is to work with gardeners and farmers to improve the health of the land – creating healthy plants, gardens and farms brimming with biodiversity and life – all founded on healthy soil. They are at the forefront of implementing innovative ways to recycle waste on farms to feed the soils as an alternative to using chemicals on the land. The Land Gardeners ran an organic cut flower business from their garden in Oxfordshire, they design gardens, and they make and sell microbial compost to gardeners and farmers.
